People often ask me where I get my inspiration. Since I’m so often inspired by other women, I started the “Fuel My Imagination” series to share a little bit about women who inspire me and how each one wears my jewelry in her own way.
Who: Dina Barzel, otherwise known as “Mommy.” (Yes, I admit that I still call her that.) It’s impossible to succinctly write about how she’s inspired me, because there are so many ways. So I’ll touch on just a few. She’s an incredible artist (you can get a glimpse of her work in these photos, which were taken in her studio in Bellevue, Washington) who sees straight to the heart of everything. During her life, she’s overcome more challenges and adversities than I can even fathom, but she never dwells on any of them. As a mother, she’s the absolute best, always making her kids feel like we are her most fabulous creations. And, in case we need some icing on the cake, she wears my jewelry everywhere, looks amazing in it, and brags to everyone that I made it. Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy!
What She’s Wearing: My red jasper and pearl necklace and lava stone and pearl necklace and my mixed chain bracelet.
My mom was 18 when she left Romania for Israel. Here she is at age 86 during a family Thanksgiving celebration last year in Bellevue, Washington, where she lives. (She's wearing vintage Ruth Barzel jewelry, of course.)
